What are the analytical techniques used by The Next Move?
The analytical technique is based in a theory called Movement Pattern Analysis (MPA), which was developed by Warren Lamb in the 1940s and 1950s. MPA provides insight into an individual’s unique decision-making preferences and how collaboratively they interact with others. An individual’s movement profile is based on an analysis of subconscious behaviors, which have a direct correlation to cognitive processes. The analysis indicates the characteristic way a person progresses through the decision-making process, from preliminary consideration to taking action. For instance, does an individual like to be well prepared before taking action, or are they accustomed to jumping into action and figuring out what they need to know along the way?
An MPA Profile is unique to every individual and is not compared against any norm or ideal movement profile. The profile provides information on a person’s cognitive strengths and limitations, the understanding of which may allow a person to leverage their strengths and supplement any limitations.
Interaction styles represent an individual’s preferences when collaborating with others in making decisions. The Interaction style changes between the different stages of decision-making. The Sharing Interaction style reflects a person’s need to actively involve others in a particular stage of the decision-making process. The Private Interaction style reflects an individual’s need to be independent of the influence of others when involved in a particular stage of the decision-making process.
MPA also provides a measure of the amount of exertion an individual manages and thrives under, called Decision Loading. For instance, how many novel decision-making processes will an individual simultaneously initiate and continue.
How can this be used when consulting with teams?
The Next Move utilized the same analytical methods for teams by individually profiling each member and then determining collective strengths and weaknesses of a team. Team conflict often arises when the individual members take different approaches to an initiative. At other times, individuals are assigned responsibilities that do not leverage their strengths and position them for failure, thwarting the end goal of a team.
Our analysts will provide team building seminars and workshops to bring awareness to the preferences of each individual and provide immediately actionable team constructs to improve effectiveness and efficiency for increased profits.
Non-verbal presentation skills.
The Next Move provides analysis and coaching to improve and optimize presentation skills for speakers, politicians, attorneys, health care clinicians and individuals in the public eye.
The coaching techniques are rooted in Laban Movement Analysis, primarily based on the research of Rudolf Laban (1879-1958). Ahead of his time, Laban’s theories are scientifically validated and have recently surged to the forefront of movement and workplace consulting because it is detail-oriented, comprehensive and highly applicable.
The Next Move LLC also incorporates theories such as body language and micro-facial expression recognition when appropriate. The analysis provides insight into a subject’s personality and communication style. Clients use the analysis to understand themselves and enhance their communication in both their business and personal relationships. Examples include adjusting strategy in legal matters and political campaigns, improving interactions with patients, or increasing interpersonal communication.
How is Laban Movement Analysis different from body language study?
Body language is the interpretation of the meaning of a particular pose or gesture in a given moment. For instance, someone crossing their arms is interpreted as the individual being "closed off".
Laban Movement Analysis is concerned with how the movement is done, rather than what the movement is or the resulting pose. To a Laban Movement Analyst, two people cross their arms in very different ways with differing movement qualities which may not signify "closed off."
While body Language is an "in the moment" snapshot of a person's non-verbal communication, The Next Move LLC observes a client for a length of time to prepare a more comprehensive analysis.
